Adult Education Collaboration
From the Adult Jewish Learning Collaboration co-chairman:
In December 2010, two weeks before I retired, my friend and neighbor, Dr. Kenneth Cohen, of blessed memory, asked me to take over Adult Education at Temple Torah. I didn’t hesitate; it was just the retirement project for which I was looking.
Once I had my feet firmly on the ground, I organized a meeting of six synagogues for the purpose of establishing a collaboration of adult educations programs. From that meeting came the collaboration of Temple Torah and Temple Shaarei Shalom. The synergy of my energy and Miriam Schaffer’s consummate professionalism got us off to a great start. Two seasons later, we added Temple Beth Tikvah and this year we have added Temple Sinai and Temple Beth Kodesh of Delray.
As of the time of the writing of this letter, the 2016-17 collaboration, now named the Adult Jewish Learning Collaboration, we will have 34 courses, 2 book clubs, 15 Wednesday lectures, 5 Sunday Distinguished lectures, 2 Israeli Movies, and a trip to a sugar mill. It is our hope to register over 300 people for the coming season.
I want to thank the co-chair people from all five synagogues who have worked hard to make our program work. Fran Wilensky of TS, Miriam Schaffer of TSS, Izzy Bordanick and Rhonda Bellsey of TBK, Barbara Alper and Clair Kauftiel of TBT, and TTE’s co-chairs, Janet Taubin and Marleen Magness (co-chair emeritus). I also want to thank Rabbis Bernstein, Fratello, Shub, Simon and Bass for their support of our endeavor and their participation.
